The Journey to Wellness: Meet Dr. Wilcox

Dr. Wilcox is a highly experienced and passionate chiropractor with a diverse educational and clinical background spanning over 30 years. Her commitment to understanding the intricacies of the human body began in 1991, culminating in a BA in Physical Education (University of Pretoria, 1993) and a BSc (Med) (Hons) in Exercise Science (Biokinetics) (University of Cape Town, 1994).

Her career initially flourished at the prestigious Sports Science Institute in Newlands Cape Town, where for two years she was deeply involved in vital programs like cardiac rehabilitation and weight management. She pioneered the Institute’s hydrotherapy service, focusing on both general and complex spinal rehabilitation. Her subsequent work alongside a chiropractor solidified her interest in musculoskeletal health, leading her to complete her master’s degree in chiropractic in 2003.

In her thriving private practice, Dr. Wilcox offers comprehensive chiropractic care for the whole family. While running a general practice, she maintains a specialised interest in sports injuries, pregnancy-related discomfort, and pediatrics.

Dr. Wilcox employs a holistic, hands-on treatment philosophy. Her adjustments utilise a variation of the Diversified and Thompson Drop techniques. Beyond manual adjustments, she integrates adjunctive therapies, including dry needling and fascial release, and provides essential education on ergonomics and correct exercise techniques.

Dr. Wilcox’s philosophy is deeply inspiring:

“All of this has put me where I am today. A firm believer in the wonder of the human body… Able to inspire and change lives for all those people willing to take the plunge and turn their lives around and take control of their health. Yes, it is a longer, harder, more effort sort of a road. But the rewards are vitality, health and wellness. Priceless!!”

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on, drug-free health care profession focused on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It’s most often used to treat back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches, and more. The primary technique, spinal manipulation (adjustment), restores joint mobility, reduces pain, and helps the body heal naturally after injury or strain.

More Than Just “Bone Clicking”

Chiropractors are highly trained in diagnosis, rehabilitation exercises, nutrition, and lifestyle guidance. They may also use massage, dry needling, ergonomic advice, and exercise therapy. If chiropractic care isn’t suitable for your condition, they will refer you to the right health care provider or work alongside other professionals.

Conditions Chiropractor Can Help

It may also assist with certain childhood conditions such as colic, middle ear infections, constipation, bedwetting, and poor concentration caused by spinal misalignment.
